April 6th 2009 - Intellectual Property
This weekend, we captured most of the footage that we both needed in our 30 second videos. As we planned last lesson, the time and the location we were going to film, helped us save a lot of time and we simply got our equipment and went to Causeway bay to film everything. This lesson, since we were not completely done with our filming, we decided to ask Ms. Wong to book the auditorium so that I could film my video. We got all our equipment together and went straight to the auditorium to film. In my storyboard the location was the cinema, since we were not allowed to film in cinemas, we decided to film everything in the auditorium, because it looked the closest to a cinema. Once Clare and I arrived at the auditorium, we tested all the lighting in the control room in order to make the place brighter and darker (when the movie starts the lights so brighter from the dark). We finally found the controls to turn on the projector and also the lighting to make the front stage brighter (just like the projector in cinemas). Once we got everything fixed and ready (cameras stand). We practiced it once with Mr. Wong's assistance as a ordinary Hong Kong citizen who was simply watching a movie in the cinema. After a few tries and discussing improvements that include angles, distance, actions, lighting, etc, we finally got right and captured it. Overall, we recorded 3 times due to the distance changes and the camera angles changes. When we were done filming, we suddenly realized that we were using the same tape as the one that we used to film in Causeway Bay and realized we overlapped all the footage that we captured that day. Clare and I were both very frustrated, though since there was nothing we could do about it, we might as well went filming in Causeway Bay again. Forunately, not ALL of the footage we recorded in Causeway Bay was overlapped, many footage at the end was still there. Clare and I decided that we would go fimling today after school in order to re-take all the footage that we did recorded the other day. After that, we went back and captured everything we had so far, just in case we overlap it again. The capture was successful, and we managed to save everything. Overall, I think this lesson was great, everything was recorded and shot well, similar to what we had in mind, except for the fact that we needed to re-take all the footage that was overlapped. Our goal for next lesson is to re-take everything that is missing, and record everything else that needs to be shot. Though in general, despite the fact that Clare and I got really frustrated when we realized our previously taken footage was mostly gone, we still had an enjoyable lesson, it was really fun and we worked well at the same time.
