Today, our class was given rubrics and a description of what our next assignment would be. I read the sheets, and learnt that the aim for this assignment would be to focus on using sounds to enrich our films and to boost our knowledge and appreciation of the usage of recording sounds. I learnt that during the process of this assignment, we will be understanding the importance of sound recording and also increasing our knowledge and skills on using audio film equipment. While looking the criterias, I realized that this assignment, "How to be a Sound Designer", was to develop our awareness on Health & Social Education, and to boost our understanding on local and global issues. While Ms. Wong was describing our tasks for this assignment, which consists of many activies which include observing a variety of things like dramatic frilm texts, comics (making audio for it), practicing our creativity and confidence, and many more. At the middle of the lesson, my group, which included of Clare, Benny, Kevin and I, started to analyze the comic called, "Dark Before Dawn", that was given to us. At first we were very confused, but we started to understand a little more when we started reading from the beginning of the book, beacuse our part was the 4th section of the book. Our group starting to plan the audio recordings that we could do for each scene of the comic, in many scenes, beause the atmosphere looks gloomy and melancholy, thats why we planned to make sounds that depict the mood and the theme, matching the comic. Some of the planned sounds were: crickets, wind blowing constantly and footsteps in the backgroud. At the end of the lesson, my group and I were able to finish planning half of the audio in the scenes. Overall, I thought this lesson was very useful because we would briefly know what we will be doing next.
